How to Convert a Bank Statement to Excel or CSV
Turn statement rows into a useful spreadsheet by making formats explicit and reviewing uncertain values before export.
Open Bank Statement Converter1. Start with the clearest original
Use a text-based bank PDF when you have one. It avoids OCR recognition errors. For a scan, use a sharp, upright image with the full transaction columns visible. The converter accepts PDF, PNG, JPG and WebP. An image-only or incomplete PDF text layer can be read with local English, Arabic or mixed OCR. An unreadable page stops extraction rather than silently producing a complete-looking partial statement.
2. Map columns before interpreting amounts
In the extracted source table, find the date, description, reference, debit, credit and running balance columns. Check the suggested mapping against actual values. Some banks use separate withdrawals and deposits, while others use one signed amount. For a signed amount, explicitly choose whether positive means money in or money out. Never infer direction only from a column position.
3. Choose dates and decimal separators explicitly
01/02/2026 may mean February 1 or January 2. Select the statement’s date order before building the transaction table. A date with no year needs a statement year; a two-digit year stays flagged. Choose decimal dot for 1,234.56 or decimal comma for 1.234,56. Arabic digits and Arabic decimal/grouping marks are normalized. Select three decimal places for amounts that require them, such as OMR; excess decimals are flagged rather than rounded.
4. Review each candidate against its source
The review table is editable. Check descriptions, dates, amounts and references next to the original document. Source rows outside the transaction table can contain page headings, wrapped descriptions or missed transactions. Copy continuation text into the correct description, or add a missed row manually. Possible duplicate transactions are flagged and remain included until you exclude them; repeated real payments must not be removed automatically.
5. Check running balances without treating them as certification
Select oldest-first or newest-first to match the statement, and optionally enter its opening balance. A balance comparison uses the known previous balance plus credit minus debit. Missing amounts and changes of currency interrupt a comparison chain. Review the number of comparisons performed: zero checks means unverified. Totals include only parseable included amounts and are separated by currency, so review flagged amounts before using totals for bookkeeping.
6. Choose the export that fits your next step
XLSX provides Transactions and Summary sheets, plus an optional Source rows sheet. The source sheet includes excluded and unparsed rows; uncheck that option to omit it when sharing reviewed transactions. Dates are ISO text, references retain leading zeros, and money cells are numeric where Excel’s precision permits. Larger values remain text. CSV provides selected transactions and review notes with a comma, semicolon or tab separator. Parsed CSV amounts use decimal dots even when the source uses commas; choose matching import settings. CSV has no cell types: configure identifiers as text when importing into Excel to retain zeros and long numbers. Formula-like text is prefixed with an apostrophe. This is a generic reviewed-data export, not a guaranteed accounting-software import template.
Keep the conversion local and the scope clear
The converter runs in your browser. It does not upload statement files to an AI provider or retain statement contents in browser storage. OCR assets download when needed; statement content is not part of those requests. Clear the workspace or close the tab to discard working data. Downloaded exports remain on your device. This release supports Excel and CSV; OFX, QBO and Tally XML need separate format and importer validation and are not available here.
