Frequently asked questions
What does Compare PDF detect?
It compares selectable text locally and highlights added, removed and unchanged lines. Matching text pages are aligned to reduce shifts caused by inserted pages. Images, colors, layout, signatures and other visual changes are not detected.
Can I compare scanned PDFs?
Pages without selectable text are marked Not compared, even when both are empty. Run OCR first if you need to inspect scanned content. This tool does not perform OCR or treat missing text as a match.
How are the pages matched?
Pages with matching text are used as anchors. Pages between anchors are paired using text similarity while preserving document order; this is a text alignment heuristic, not a guarantee that every moved or rewritten page is matched correctly. Review the page numbers and previews.
What are the limits?
Each PDF can be up to 50 MB and 100 pages, with up to one million text characters per document and 50,000 per page. Very large line comparisons are marked Not compared to protect browser memory.
Are my files uploaded?
No. PDF reading, comparison and report generation happen in your browser. Files are not uploaded by this tool or retained after you leave or remove them.
